Message from the President
By: Fedor Lurie, MD - AVF President
It’s hard to believe we are already beginning to see the leaves change here in Ohio. As we prepare for the colder months, the AVF is in working diligently planning our 27th Annual Meeting in Palm Springs. The Annual Meeting will be our first paper-light meeting, with far fewer printed materials and an enhanced mobile application. The mobile application will replace our printed program, bringing everything you need to your fingertips.
We are also bringing back our Thursday afternoon off. I invite you to take advantage of the afternoon by signing up to play in our first AVF Fundraising golf tournament, with prizes, contests, and a social gathering afterwards. New this year for the Foundation, we’re also organizing a silent auction. Be sure to sign up to donate your timeshare, autographed sports memorabilia, or tickets to a football game at your alma mater. More information will be mailed to you in the coming weeks on how to sign up for both events.
Your Program Committee is diligently reviewing the abstracts submitted to the Annual Meeting and the Specialty Symposium speakers are being invited this week. Online registration for the Annual Meeting will be open in the coming weeks along with detailed program information. Be sure to check the Annual Meeting website often for updates.
In the midst of planning the Annual Meeting, your leadership is also taking up key policy issues on behalf of the membership. To better help us continually represent our membership, the AVF Executive Committee just appointed a Health Policy Committee. In addition to extending communication with payors addressing questionable changes in coverage, this committee will work on developing quality measures for potential CMS use. Many of you responded to our call for volunteers to serve on an FDA panel. The Executive Committee will be reviewing the application this month with more news to follow.
On behalf of the AVF leadership, thank you all for your commitment to the AVF. I encourage you to volunteer to participate in an AVF committee via our new Get Involved section of the website. I look forward to helping you find a volunteer opportunity within AVF.
